Fire restrictions for Wilbinga

Up to date as from the 15th of November 2018.

As of the 1st of October, the Shire entered its restricted burning period which runs until the 21st of November. During this period a permit is required for all fires including solid fuel BBQs and campfires, however permits can only be issued for private property, therefore, fires in the Wilbinga area after the 1st Oct are illegal and will incur a penalty.

From the 22nd of Nov until the 28th Feb is the prohibited period in which ALL fires are illegal and from 1st March until 31 May we re-enter restricted with the same rules applying as previously mentioned.

Total Fire bans are declared by The Minister for Emergency Services and are advertised the night before on all TV channels and ABC Radio as well as most weather forecasts. You are in contravention of the ban if you drive in the bush (yes, on tracks) during a total fire ban. Potential fines of up to $25000 or 12 months jail. You can find the information about Total Fire Bans on the Emergency Wa Website. Just follow the links.

Vehicle Movement Bans are declared by Local Government, generally by myself on the day depending on the weather information gathered from across the various areas in the Shire. The information will then be published on the Shires web page, Facebook page and will also be announced on ABC Radio.

You can also apply to the shire to be added to their harvest ban line to receive alerts whenever a ban is declared.
